I woke up after another great night of sleep. I had breakfast with the family and we all decided to go explore the island of Rangitoto. An island that was formed by one volcano. New Zealand is basically all made up of all volcanos. Olly and I were just going to go but I invited Dave and Rose to come along as well. We made sandwiches and brought some water. Our ferry was leaving out of Auckland harbor at 12:15 P.M. It was about a 30 minute ferry ride to Rangitoto Island.
The island was lush and filled with black lava. We all spent a total of about 4 hours hiking around the island and hiking up to the summit. The views were amazing. We also hiked to the volcanic caves. On our hike Dave pointed out some tea tree plants and the silver fern plant that is only found in NZ. I took a picture with one of them. The front of the fern is green like a normal fern and the back side is silver.
After our beautiful hike we all got back on the ferry. Olly and I decided to make dinner for the family, while Dave made us espresso drinks to keep us all energized... Dave loves his tea and coffee. Him and Rose drink tea morning and noon... Coffee is always at around 4 P.M. FOr TEA time (dinner)... Olly and I made pasta with shrimp, salad, brussel sprouts (Carly style), wine (pinto gris), garlic bread, and pumpkin... for dessert fruit salad. As we were all sitting around the table we saw the sunset and I took a picture of it, so amazing. All of us called it a night.
